I've always been looking for
Today you've finally let me find it
I hope you know
I'm not joking
Only today I've realised your goodness
You have a very special style
让我神魂颠倒 that captivates me
I think I've definitely fallen under your spell
呜 美丽在燃烧 oo your beauty is vibrant
I can't take it for much longer
Actually I'm not bad
You can consider me
Anything is ok
Just don't say no
We can hold hands
沙滩走一走 and take a stroll on the beach
Just being with you is enough
Hope you can be my baby
You definitely won't be sorry
I just have one request
Which is to be good to you
Will never let you cry
Will never let your heart break
I hope you believe me
Can we be together
You just have to believe me
This song means a lot to me not just because of its emotional message, but because of its sentimental significance in my life. This was the first chinese song that really made me realise that chinese music wasn't just a filler for Taiwanese dramas or some music that was just put out by mediocre artists without any intellectual meaning behind it. When I first heard Gary's <Superman> CD, this was my favourite song on it and I was pleasantly surprised at the emotional depth and the raw honesty that Gary sang with. In all my life I had never heard anything that had touched me so deeply, and from then on, it aroused my curiosity in this music that I hardly understood, but could identify so strongly with. When I first started listening to Gary's music, I always asked myself-Why do you like this singer so much? And the only answer that I could manage to give myself was that his music made me feel weightless. That when I closed my eyes and just listened, I felt like I was flying up in the air, without any worries at all.
So I feel like this would be a great starting point to celebrate my 200 lyric translations. What better way than to reminisce and to look back on my motivations that led me to fall in love with Chinese music, to start this website, and to be where I am today? It was always this interest in why certain songs could touch others' lives and have such a large impact which furthered my interest in Chinese music, because it simply was and is the kind of music that has touched me so deeply over these past seven years; mainstream or no mainstream. So much has changed in the past few years, but at the same time, so little. My love for Gary Chaw and his music (as always) is unwavering, and my passion for learning about Chinese music and sharing it with the world is still there, burning brighter every day.
After some painstaking counting (maths was never my best suit), I realised that I've done 196 lyric translations since the opening of this blog! To celebrate, the last four lyric translations that I will do will be for four songs which are very special to me; each with a little story about what these songs and of course the lyrics mean to me!
A very big thank you to all people who have been supporting this lyrics blog from the start, hopefully I can continue to have your support and help you with translation requests for a long time to come!
Hope you like this special four-part lyric series!
