Eve Ai has always been a musician and artist I have admired greatly. Although I admit I'm not too well-versed in her music, her unique, throaty vocals and brash at times, yet sweet at others songwriting style has always been a point of interest for me.
So this time, with the release of her third album "Talk about Eve", I was determined to get onto the bandwagon before I missed my chance again!
Although in previous albums, Eve had showcased a more abrasive take by criticising current societal trends through her album "Grown Up's Love Songs", she has stated that this time, she's going to be taking a softer approach.
"I don't wish to be at odds with the world anymore, I want to take those closest to me and flee together, towards the lives we want."
Encircling this latest album are the themes of 'love' and 'escape', two ideas which are very relevant to women in modern society.
Eve has said that this will be her most intimate album to date, saying "I envision this to be an album which will allow me to get close to my audience, we can sit together, chat about love, this and that, listen to my observations on life, and share views".
Fans can expect a variety of exciting collaborations within the album with the likes of famed producer Chen Jian Qi, singer songwriters Evan Yo and Eric Chou, as well as lyricist Zhang Jian Jun Wei.
Her first single "Sum of Us" has already caught the attention of many with its beautiful, stripped down arrangement against Eve's mesmerising and intimate vocals which will have your heart caught in your throat in no time.

Her second single "Harmless Loneliness" is impulsive, reckless and emotional. Certainly not just any old love ballad. Check out the cool music video too!

After a long break (his last album was released in 2009), Evan Yo is finally back with his latest EP “I Think I Can我想我可以” which will be released on the 11th of September. With the backing of many celebrity friends who have taken to Facebook to post their renditions of his single such as Jess Lee, Huang Zi Jiao, Penny Dai, Abin, Eve ai, Nicholas Teo, Kenji Wu and more, I’ve already heard it enough times to want to hear the original version.
Well, it’s not far now! His single can be heard from 31st of August onwards, so what are you waiting for? #我想我可以
A big welcome back to songstress Joanna wang who made a long-awaited comeback with the release of her latest album <Midnight Cinema> on the 29th of March.
Joanna has expressed her immense satisfaction with this album, as she was able to take creative control over this album without compromising her ideals. The album is a selection of personal covers with a vintage and Hollywood glam feel to it, but as Singer-Songwriter Khalil Fong points out, there is more of a rebellious side to this album than what is represented on the surface.
Knowing Joanna and the pains that she goes to to make her work not just as a singer but as an artist known, I'm really happy to see her so excited about how the creative process was all her own work, without being shot down by her record company.
Working in Finland with co-producer and arranger Pessi Levanto, the album is definitely something I'd recommend to anyone willing to listen to some great music! It's also been lauded by friends of Joanna such as Lara Veronin and Evan Yo, the latter of which notably said 'if you don't listen to this album, don't bother buying albums anymore'; and I fully second that opinion.
Joanna's been emphasisng how on previous albums she has always had to compromise in order to get her original compositions onto the album, causing her a great deal of heartache due to her need to express her creativity as an artist. Although other artists may be able to deal with the restrictions that record labels may pose on their creativity, I really admire Joanna for her strong headed opposition to this. She's a strong and opinionated person who is extremely talented, which is why I've been supporting her until this day.
I really am proud of everything she's achieved thus far, and am grateful to be able to share in her happiness. It's a fresh start for her, and I hope it heralds even more great, original music from her to come!
