After a four-year wait, Nick Chou is finally back in the saddle releasing his own album "REAL", featuring a number of sick collaborations with Western DJs such as Nicky Romero, Bassjackers, Borgore, Kronic and Ricky Remedy.
The presence of these experienced DJs lends Nick's album a more slick feel, but it is clear from his self-composed melodies and lyrics that this is more in the vein of his true style, hence the album title "Real".
Incorporating a mix of EDM, Trap, pop, rock, hip hop, ballads and R&B into his 13-song double album, Nick is ready to show the world his real self, not as that packaged idol he was once seen as, but as a true man of music.
While the first half of the album is more sentimental and balladic, the second half is more EDM-focused, and features collaborations with some of the Western music market's biggest DJs.
According to Nick, this is the statement he released regarding his absence from the music scene in past years:
"In these last few years I have never stopped building up my musical career. Been working hard at writing new songs, using musical online platforms, getting to know other DJs and asynchronously writing with them....that allowed this work to slowly have an overall shape. After that, I took my works to look for people who would understand it, in doing so there were many bouts of bitterness and hardship that others didn't know about. Composing is a lonely road, but luckily I can use my Facebook and Instagram to interact with fans, and got a lot of support and confidence from there. Of course, I also received a lot of comments about my position and appearance, but not only did these comments not bring me down, but they instead gave me even more to think about, and made concrete my standards for my music, its variety and attitude. Now I know, this is the road I want to walk!"
Despite all the idol dramas and commercial activities, Nick is now trying and successfully reinventing himself as a singer-songwriter with a sufficient amount of clout. Gaining credibility by writing the theme song "Ga Tao" for the movie of the same name and participating in the behind-the-scenes creative process of rapper Miss Ko's album, this guy is one up-and-comer to watch out for.

Note from Editor: Say hello to Asian Pop Weekly's newest blog series "C-Pop Style Diary", where we'll be sharing unique stylespiration from some of our favourite C-pop artists whom I admire very much! The underlying message I'd like this series to convey is that you don't have to go over the top or spend lots of money to look or feel beautiful-just be yourself! For the girls especially ;)
Singer-songwriter-producer Tanya Chua has always been a source of inspiration for me. Be it through her music, her tastes or her sense of style, her individualism and strong, independent yet overtly feminine attitude always shines through. Of course, in her fashion sense, this is no exception. Having posted many photos of her clad in denim on her Facebook, it seems that the Mandopop songstress is an expert in pairing denim to create outfits that look effortlessly classy with simple touches to create beautiful, coordinated looks. Let's explore a few of them below, shall we?
Revamping the 'white tee and jeans' look
Tanya is one singer who has completely mastered the 'white tee and jeans' look with her own feminine touch. Pairing fitted white tees with simple, funky graphics against stylish denim skinnies with either folds in the cuffs or rips, her look is simple, yet beautiful. Understated yet energetic, Tanya's versatile look is great for day outs, and could even tide you over for dinner at a semi-classy restaurant on a Thursday night (maybe).
Shirts and Shorts (are) allowed
Sticking with high waisted denim shorts, Tanya injects class into even her most staple accessories. With her trusty high-top converses by her side that are pictured in most photos, you can see how they would be a go-to alternative if you're ever worried about what shoes to pair with any denim outfit. Throwing on an interesting top such as the pheasant blouse Tanya has on, or the cropped shirt can create a variety of styles which can accommodate a fun, summery look. To me, Tanya's ensemble is unique as it is sporty, functional, feminine and chic all at once. Now this is a woman who's got her stuff together!
Taking the denim game to the next level, Tanya shows how much difference a patterned shirt with a unique design and a pair of pumps can make so much difference. Note how she tucks in her shirts into the waist of her denim bottoms which neatens and streamlines the look. A last feminine touch is given by adding a pair of elegant heels or pumps to complete the look. The last picture here is my favourite, where she adds a pop of red in her pumps and matching bag to give the look a little more spunk.

R-Chord is set to release his all new album "Want You To Know" which was produced once again by the awesome Skot Suyama.
This time, the album is based around the concept of R-Chord's rebellious and straight-talking personality.
The album's theme is outlined as such:
"The music world doesn't have absolute blacks or whites.
When hypocrisy is pervasive, when the cruel reality naked,
The core of his world is music.
This is his free determination, his skill"
His album will be released on the 26th of August, and includes many collaborations, this time with Nine Chen, Nine one one, Z-Chen, MJ116 and Jess Lee on 12 high-voltage tracks that are all about the music.
It has been said that the visuals for this particular album are closely themed to reflect R Chord's daily life and show a more toned down, but still edgy image.
His electrifying first single "Braveheart" is out now, listen to it below!

Popular host "Butterfly" has truly emerged from her cocoon with a new image that has shocked fans and audiences all over Asia!
The host who initially became popular as a personality on Children's TV shows made the transition into hosting "100% Entertainment" along with Show Lo and Alien Huang as well as members of the band Lollipop F a couple years back, and has been becoming more and more beautiful ever since.
Having admitted to some plastic surgery to enhance her looks, we applaud Butterfly for her candidness!
Signed under Show Lo's artist management company Creativity Entertainment, the pair have been keeping her EP details under wraps for a while, but released her five-track EP on the 19th of August.
Her first single "Sorry for the wait" was produced by famous producer Starr Chen, with lyrics penned by former member of Magic Power Gaga.
In the music video, she can be seen incorporating a handsome mix of Twerk, Hip Hop and Swag into her dance moves, while singing and rapping with the best of them. Now that was unexpected!
Check out her first single below:

A year after the release of his debut album 'Learn to Love", talented balladeer and singer-songwriter Eric Chou is back with his second album titled "What Love Has Taught Us".
After learning to love, he's back to teach us what love has taught him. Makes sense, don't it?
Hot off the presses, his single "How Are You" has become a cult success this summer, having already been covered hundreds of times since its release and attaining over 4 million YouTube hits since.
From what I've heard, Chou has certainly upped his game since the last album. His melodies flow a little more than they did before, and incorporate more sophisticated elements this time around.
As for his vocals, well...heart-meltingly warm and emotive as usual.
However, fans can expect more breakthrough efforts from Chou in this album, as he delves into the EDM genre and works with the likes of EDM/Hip Hop producer Starr Chen on single "Let it go".
Overall, given Chou's track record for some really solid, melodic tracks, I'm super excited to hear the rest of his album!
